So, I have created a rectangle, then extruded it 3mm thick. I then place a hole onto a surface then extrude that through creating a hole in the recatangle. How do I then edit this and move it to another position using the history function?

Select the hole interior and use Menu Transform > Deplacer/Pivoter (shortcut M)
