Noob here, I need help

Hello all,

I’m very new here, in fact, I’ve just created this account.

A little bit of me, I’m a software developer that is trying to learn CAD, since I have a 3d printer and wanted to come up with some designs of my own.

I’m trying the Pro version of Shapr3D for 14 days, and tried to design a very simple cube and I’m attempting to export it to Bambu Studio to slice it and print it.

But whatever I try, when importing my finished cube to Bambu Studio, the design looks way too small. And scaling it makes it way too big.

I’ve Google it, asked AI, read articles, followed instructions and still cannot get it right. You guys are my last hope as I’m very frustrated at this point.

I learnt that exporting to STL is not the best, so I tried with 3MF and STEP, but with same result.

As an example, I created a very simple 5mm x 5mm x 2 mm cube. Very simple sketch with extrusion.

Exporting it to Bambu Studio as 3MF, the measurements seems to be about right:

But this is what I see on the build plate:

And it prints exactly like that. Scaling it just makes it worse, as the initials 5mm x 5mm x 2mm are not respected and prints the object way too big.

I thought this could be a problem between millimeters and inches, but I’ve checked the settings in both Shapr3D and Bambu Studio, and both are in millimeters.

At this point I’m lost without knowing what to do. I know many people had this problem in the past but in my case it seems like I can’t solve it no matter what I try.

Thanks in advance.

Same size in S3D and in BBL Studio

Did you get another result?

I use Shapr3D to create objects for printing and use Bambu Studio, but I can’t say I have had any issue with dimensions in the way you are describing.

I am confused about how you can scale an object as you described in Bambu Studio and not get the exact dimensions you want because you can very easily enter the X, Y and Z to precisely size an object. Just selecting the object and pressing the scale button will show you the exact size the object currently is.

I have had some odd behaviour in the past from when I have imported a drawing into Shapr3D, or used Shapr3D to create text and tried to open the object in Bambu Studio. It seems to get confused about something in the way Shapr3D exports the object and thinks it needs to scale things or something (I don’t recall the exact issue it brings up). I have learned to tell it to ignore the issue and my objects are just fine. However, 98% of the stuff I create in Shapr3D does not have a single issue at all, and those 2% are just fine once I figured out to ignore the error that Bambu threw at me.

You are most likely modeling in ‘inches’. Change the units temporarily to ‘mm’ and then export to STL or 3MF.

Hi.

Thanks for the video. Yes, I did very similar steps. And it seems fine on Shapr3D.

But then in Bambu Studio, the object looks way to small.

Hi,

I’m using millimeters.

Still no luck.

Hi,

I’m pretty sure I’m doing something wrong, but not quite sure what.

In Bambu Studio, the scale is at 100%, and the size looks fine. But on the build plate it looks tiny:

OMG, I’m an absolute idiot. I messed up real bad.

The correct measurements for the cube should be 5 CM x 5CM x 2CM, not millimeters.

I looked at my ruler and saw “mm” and for some odd reason I assumed it was everything in millimeters.

No wonder the design looks tiny in Bambu Studio.

I’m so sorry you guys for wasting your time. :frowning:

I’ll keep learning and getting better, I hope.

Thank you all.

Hey, no problem. Glad you caught the error and shared. We all have a ‘senior’ moment from time to time (no matter the age).:slightly_smiling_face:

You can search the forum. “model small” or “model slicer tiny” etc.

Don’t make us whip out: https://letmegooglethat.com/

That said WELCOME fellow printer!

Most of all, I like how these kinds of topics get solved by marking the TC’s own message as the “Solution”.

ahah I did Google it, checked this forum, used AI.

But sometimes there’s no answer to my own stupidity.

I guess laughing at my brain fart is the best bet, instead of crying. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks. I’m glad I’m here in this forum, while I ask for forgiveness for a first disaster of a post ahah.

Well, it’s a “solution” for my own silliness, I guess.

Thanks for your help.
