I am sometimes unable to export a body to a parasolid or a step file. I get the following error message. I usually don’t have this problem. It’s seems to be on just certain files. Any ideas about what could cause this? TIA
Do you have meshes in this project? If so it wont be able to convert them to step (not sure about X_T).
I did import a STL file into the project which was used to cut the slots in the body shown (via a subtract operation). And I did a test…as you say, it won’t let me export as a STEP file either.
That’s curious behavior. I’m just trying to export that body and shed all the steps (history) that it took to create that body. Why would it matter if an STL file is in the project?
Because STL can’t be converted to STEP. But you can export to .stl in that case.
Yes, but I’m not trying to convert the STL. That was just an object used to create the body that I want to export as a clean object without all the history.
When I export a body from other projects (which don’t include an imported STL) the exported parasolid file only includes the body that is visible at the time of export. It doesn’t include any of the history, or sketches, or planes used to create that body.
So, I don’t understand why having an STL file in the project should prevent the visible body from exporting. I would think it is irrelevant.
If you used it to change another object this another object usually become a mesh too.
If you can share problematic project I could investigate deeper.
Thanks for the offer, but I don’t need to waste any more of your time.
This isn’t a big problem for me. I have an easy work around. I’ll just replace the imported STL object with an identical object I create in the project. I created the imported object in an earlier version of the current project. It was just easier to export it from the earlier project and import it into this one.
I’ve been prototyping parts for a 3D printing project, and they go through a lot of changes over several weeks. Now that I have the desired results, I just want to shed all the baggage from many, many revisions.
