Is there a way to show the dimension of the object when you are scaling it? I know it shows 1.03x, but it would be nicer know it went from 30mm to 43mm or whatever.

If I understand your question? I usually place a line next to a known dimension, select all and then scale according to the required scalability. (Type in the value that you want scaled).
Works well for me.
