Snap to integer values when sketching

Solution:
Use a modifier key (option/cmd etc) to snap the value to an integer.

The problem that this feature will solve:
Often when sketching you want lines/circles/rectangles rounded to the nearest mm (or cm/m depends on your model) but it only does this snapping to grid points. Doesn’t work if:

  • you don’t start on a grid point
  • line is not horizontal or vertical
  • you don’t want to keep changing and locking/unlocking the grid size

A simple example:

The user wants to draw a 30mm line on the sloping line. However, needs to set the value manually. Contrast this with setting the depth to 20mm which snaps nicely to whole values.

Brief description of the outcomes that you expect from this feature:
Easily snap the value to an integer when sketching by simply holding a modifier key (or equivalent on an iPad). Related to this is forcing the user to snap to 5deg when rotating which is such a nuisance when trying to rotate to a particular point!
Being able to change easily from detailed (many decimal places) to whole numbers (which many designers use by default) is something users should expect.

What can’t you achieve without this feature?
Need to keep entering values manually. It is not even possible to edit the value (another missing UI function)

Is this slowing you down?
YES and much muttering!

Note: I made a similar request in Apr but no response from shapr3D. Surely it not much effort to provide this (and the editing functionality)?

I like that idea. I understand you are snapping to the grid, but lines on an angle should go the extra mile and increment by whole numbered millimeters if the grid is set to mm/cm, and fractional if set to ft/in.

I tend to have to make many manual dimension adjustments that way similarly to geoffree3.

kinda of a pain.

Yes, thanks. I’m sure that many users find having to enter dimension rather tedious and unnecessary when the system could help.
