Unify the iPad, MacOS, and Vision Pro interfaces

Shapr3d across Apple devices is fairly consistent but there’s more that could be done. This may apply to the Windows interface as well but I don’t use it…

Example 1:
New folder is at the bottom of the MacOS Items window but at the top of the iPad window. In this case, iPad should win as it’s better to have controls above where your hand is. Add folder icon in MacOS (in finder) is at the top of the window so it would be consistent even for MacOS.

Example 2:
Import on an iPad is in an ellipsis icon at the top of the screen. On MacOS it’s in the file menu. iPad wins b/c the iPad doesn’t really have the notion of a menu bar. On MacOS there are already icons in the window bar (e.g. Home) so why not just put the ellipsis menu next to it so that it looks just like it does on the iPad.

Example 3:
The item visibility icon (the eye) on the iPad is always visible (either bright for visible or dim for invisible). On MacOS, it’s only visible when the item is visible (eye with a line through it) and on mouse over (appears as bright for visible). I assume this is b/c only the iPad Pro pencil supports hover. Either the iPad wins here or change the UI so that it makes sense for both.

etc.

Some may argue that it’s bad to reduce cross platform interfaces to the lowest common denominator. Understood. But there’s likely one consistent way to do it for all of the devices.

Some may say this is nitpicking. These are practical observations of attempting to context switch among platforms and the little things really do use precious time.

The problem that this feature will solve:

Reduce friction of using/learning shapr3d on Apple devices.

Brief description of the outcomes that you expect from this feature:

Increased adoption. Reduced polarization of users to a specific device. UI design reduction as it would be the same on both.

What can’t you achieve without this feature?

It’s harder to move among the platforms due to the slightly different interfaces. Context switching slows down the workflow.

Is this a workflow blocker for you? Is this why you can’t use Shapr3D for work? Is this slowing you down?

No, it is just slowing me down.

update for Example 2 : import icon

when no project is open
Mac : window bar aligned right
iPad : window bar aligned right

when project is open
Mac : in menu only
iPad : in ellipsis menu aligned center

If the Mac had the ellipsis menu with the same items in it when the project is open, it would be more consistent.
