3D from 2D JPEG / PDF

Hi there,

I am designing / printing spare parts for my table saw where specific parts are not available anymore.

In this case, I would like to generate a 3D for either milling or printing a master.

I only have the 2D sketch in JPEG. Is there any chance to do it in a quick fix. Sure, this example is quite easy to do by myself, but I have some others where It would be more difficult.

Thanks, Frank

Are you looking for someone who will do that for you?

No. I want to do this myself, just want to understand how to do (in this simple geometry), and if Shapr3D has a simple solution.

Make a sketch, constraint every part, set sizes from the photo.

The “solution” is the same as in any other CAD

I assume this is a riving knife and you are designing it to mill it not 3d print it

Yes, it is. But I would like to do an assembly trial with a 3D printed sample (no operation of the saw), before I order the actual metal part.

I heard in the past, that pictures can be transferred into vectorized pictures and then added into 3D. Will look into that more.

Thanks to all so far.

You can trace it in Inkscape, for example, but that won’t give you accurate sizes and shapes. Fixing the drawing after Inkscape will take much longer than just doing the work in CAD from the beginning.
