Assembling 3 Parts from Separate Projects

Hi, I created 3 single-body parts (that will combine to a single device). I created each part in it’s own project. Now i want to bring all 3 parts into a single project and assemble them using “align” or some similar method. So far, I exported 1 part as a .shapr file then used “import to current project” where the other part is, and it did import the 1st part, but it just kind of “smooshed” the two parts together without allowing me to align them in any meaningful way. I need to assemble the three parts (and they assemble in very simple way 14mm posts into 14mm boss, and 40mm posts into 40mm cutouts. So i guess align will work well, but how do import the shapr file such that its “off to the side” of the first part, and not just smooshed into the other part ? I tried to “separate” the parts after it was imported, but they seem “stuck” together so all i could do was just use “undo” button to get back to separate projects again. Thanks!!

First, it’s easier if you put everything from each project into a folder and naming it before exporting to .shapr files. That way, when they are imported, it is easy to differentiate among them.

When you import, you should be able to select the folder of one of the parts and then use the gizmo to move it so that it doesn’t overlap with the others. Do the same for the next part. With them separated, it should be easier to use the align tool and align them the way that you want.

Thanks for your reply! I was able to assemble all 3 components into the composite device. Your email reassured me that it was possible, so getting there was just an exercise. I did have a moment trying to figure out how to get the second post into the second boss, but then i discovered how to use the rotate feature with align and that got 'er done.
