Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong in this tutorial exercise? Model A Bracket Mount

First off.. I have never used 3D software.. first time… Trying to learn because I am getting a 3D printer…..
I have 35 years experience working with Illustrator as a graphic designer..
so I was told Shapr3D would be the best option for me to learn with my background..

Anyway, I have done this tutorial… Model a Bracket Mount… from the tutorials inside the app…

I have completed all the steps… but apparently I missed something….

at the end of the video, it says to change the Column Extrusion to 60 mm… in the video when they adjust the column to 60 mm, the bracket moves up with the column when it’s changed to 60 mm…

I am selecting the faces of the column as in the video (the D shaped face)
clicking on the Column Extrusion “layer” in the History panel
I have tried to change the setting in the history panel to 60 as well as using the blue arrow to adjust it to 60 and neither way has worked…

when I adjust mine, only the column adjusts correctly but the bracket stays in it’s original position…

I have joined the bracket pieces with the column and the base using UNION as instructed earlier in the video… When I double click on any part of the design, it selects everything as intended.

So I’m not sure where I went wrong and why the bracket does not move up when the column is made taller…

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You too? I followed it precisely.

That means you didn’t connect the plane with the sketch to the D shaped body.

Here is my simulation of the problem and solution.

I followed the tutorial “precisely” on purpose. Who failed?

If user seeing S3D for the first time then Shapr3D team.
If user have at least minimal experience then user

I never follow tutorials precisely because I understand that everything is constantly changing. Things that worked yesterday might not work today.

Everything except the tutorials.

Question: When you selected the top face of the “D” in the tutorial, wasn’t that supposed to connect them? Wasn’t that the new plane/ extension of the sketch/ new sketch? If not for in the history fix like you did, how would you “fix” the tutorial so editing the history was not needed in this case?

Intuitively once the two were unionized they should have moved together. Isn’t that something broken?

That was my first time using the history. Just haven’t needed it.

So I haven’t looked at the tutorial but I have a general idea what your trying to achieve.

I would align the neck to the top and union.
