Cutting holes for bolts

Hi all.

I draw a lot of steel connections.

Looking to see if people have any other ideas for workflow. Please see my model for an example and also the screen shots.

I’m currently using two methods:

  1. Projecting the cleat holes to the beam to then extrude the circle and cut the beam. Creates multiple extra sketches and steps…
  2. Creating a clear that does not have the holes fully cut through. This leaves some geometry to then cut through the beam with an extrude, this also leaves no extra sketches etc.

Have you tried projecting the hole edge onto the channel and then just extruding?

Thanks for the response! I was selecting the inside of the hole when previously doing this, of course the outside works as well. Cheers

You can also select multiple holes for projecting onto the same face so you can project all holes in one step and then extrude them all in another.
