Your example you go name the file and go back so you can help the new feature out so it can help you pick better? If thats the case why not just go to the items panel since you named it and hide it thats how we did it before.
More complex projects are you naming every single item which could be hundreds? Or in my cause I make tons, make a selection and group them and name the folder.
Have you tried out how it works on the iPad? Which is the reason why we are asking for Off Feature not get rid of the feature, not abandon it.
I am not sure I understand this thread. When first introduced the pop-up was a real disturbance, always in the way for efficient work.
But that believe has changed slightly. If I produce a cube and look at it I only get the pop-up when activating it by shift-com-S/(right-click [MacOS]) or when items overlap or share an edge etc.
IMHO, that now works fine in even my most complex project.
The cube example (@Dayton3D)
MacOS top view clicking an edge selects the edge. Select Through… and I get that.
iPadOS top view clicking an edge selects the edge. Select Through… (by keyboard) and I get that.
Though I miss a commando to activate Select Through without keyboard on iPadOS.
Instad the proposed @JST solution, maybe the popup should just (in combo with item highlighting [that is missing]) select the highlighted at a second click.
(Btw, trying out older versions before Select Through I found that the selection does not always (?) depends on order created but rather the view angle, visibility of related faces, to an items)
On my machine, for instance, if I draw a simple 100mm box with 2mm walls, and click on an edge, sometimes I get a popup and sometimes I don’t. And I do name my components, but I just tried it with the box and I got a popup of five items called “Edge-Box-Merged Steps”. Other commands are now frozen until I click away from the box and zoom in and try again.
I just tried it on a more complex component, and it returned a list of over twenty items all with the same name. All I wanted to do was select the component so I could copy it, but I had to click and cancel about six times before I clicked on something that highlighted the whole body.
I have not seen any of this on iPadOS or macOS, ever. And that, with thousands of items per project, extremely nested. I do not say that you are wrong, I just don’t understand why I have no problems. Are you on Windows? I’ve been thinking of doing a Windows install just to try things out. I have only one spare Mac for now, where I have a good assortment of older (release) versions on standby for testing.
Yes, I’m on Windows 10. I just tried it with a simple cube and zoomed way out, and it brings up a list of nine options when I click on it. It looks like it takes the mouse(x,y) and populates the list with whatever items are within a certain threshold. This would make sense with something like an engine assembly with multiple components, but (to my knowledge) since I can’t give the parts of a body a name (left edge, right edge, etc), it isn’t very helpful and drags out development.
And yes, I have a couple of very complex designs too, but normally I would isolate the thing I’m working on and just want to be able to click on things without this popup.
No.
At first click the one of the row of the pop up panel.
It’s highlighted, as the edge and the associated body too. (the highlighted body helps me to see the edge, what I want has been selected)
If I selected, what I wanted , double click or chek mark. ..
So it´s not just me who´s unhappy with this. Here´s another bad example of the popup. I want to split a body and want to select the plane, but can I? Nope, Shapr wants me to specify which one from a popup even though its properly zoomed in and no other plane in sight
