Disabling Sync or leaving the Shapr3D

How to disable sync feature? If not possible I will not be using the Shapr3D any more. You have no right to force the users to share their files in the cloud.

This is scary..as I truly do not remember this feature change… it USE TO BE ABLE TO TURN OFF CLOUD SYNC. Now you can not. and now the issue/questions is not even being displayed in public.
Yep… time to bail here! this is B.S.

Hi @Freeisbetter , if you don’t turn on Shapr3D Cloud, then all your data will be stored locally. If you turn on Shapr3D Cloud, then your data will be synced over AWS following the best security practices in the industry.

No you can not turn it off.

Hi,

If you click on the cloud icon on the top right of the screen, you will get the enable/disable switch.
When Sync is disabled, the cloud icon is barred.

I am still testing the Free version on Mac. There certainly seems no way to turn off the Cloud Sync. I cannot click the could and get a bar through it. Instead, when I click the cloud icon, it drops a dialog and tells you the projects are up to date.

As with the OP, if I cannot save my files locally, then Shap3r is not for me.

Of course, you can export your .shapr3d wherever you want on your computer or elsewhere.

Hi,
Mac > Shapr3d Pro > We can’t switch.
What version do you have?

No it does not work. I’m testing the 5.890.9070.0 windows version.

I tried the free version and I can not exclude the cloud (macOS). Don’t want to try on my workstation…

Hi @jean-philippe2

version 5.890.9062 on macOS and iPad.
I disabled Sync a long time ago, and at that time it was possible to enable and later disable the Sync feature, I did it a couple of time to test the feature when it was released.
Sync is currently not activated on my account (I’m not going to activate it now just to test :slightly_smiling_face:)

Also I believe way it works if you are an Enterprise and have some corporate compliance issues, need only local storage, file can never escape out of the compound.

Here is an option.

I also knew a guy who was super paranoid about syncing or any internet traffic going out of his home computer. I think its built into some VPN program, where you can lock down data going out per app, to be honest I don’t think there is any mainstream 3dCAD tool that doesn’t send any data out, for billing, cloud sync, or some app auth reasons. Unless you want to use Freecad! :anxious_face_with_sweat:

I agree that it’s not okay that people can’t disable sync in the app. But there’s still the option to block it via a firewall or even with a simple entry in the hosts file (It’s a strange, but still functional solution).

Dirty but working.

Agree!

I block this chatter from S3D:

[as pict, to not mess upp discourse]

(…and then I get bashed by staff for being inactive  )

To be 100 sure under some draconic NDAs, I keep all projects exported, as long as not all traffic is blocked.

I’m sure you can block it to a point when Shapr wants the subscription fee.

Now days there is a cost for going offline, I do not agree because with Shapr I’m just an hobbyist. As a pro I have to follow all the NDA, regulations the client pays.

Correct, but even a hobbyist can feel that some chatter is unnecessary, and if being careful, you can balance integrity/NDA and still have a validation of a license.

I would love to have a corporate license. I have no idea of the cost. But I am sure that it would be out of my league. Not all NDAs have a client; more a regulatory by state. And as I’m those days, almost a one-man show.

I guess there is levels of hobbyist.

  1. Fix things around the house but never make money.
  2. Etsy, hobbyist who wants to sale few things as a hobby.

Where is this NDA coming from without a client?

For example; HIPAA or (draconic) USPTO (or equivalents, varies from country to country), no client needed.
