Drawing holes directly on a face

Can you please explain how to place holes directly on the face(s) of a 3D drawing? When I try to dimension and draw holes where I need them on a specific face they are floating way above the design. Can I draw them right on the face and then extrude them? Thank you

You can’t draw on a face. But you can create sketch using face as a initial plane. Then all you need is extrude.

Double tap (spacebar) the face you’re trying to make the hole on. I don’t think you’re selecting a plane. If you’re using the view box(drawing a blank on the name) in the upper right it defaults to the XYZ plane, where the red green and blue lines are.
