Extrude multiple depths from one sketch? SOLVED

Hello. I’m trying to make a tote lid with a finger hole. Simple. I have sketch that has the outline, the finger hole. This will be extruded to the thickness specified. I’d like to add two offsets (outer rim and around the finger hole) to extrude an additional height above the first extrusion for looks and strength.

I haven’t figured out how to do this, as the first extrusion prevents me from using the sketch. I tried doing the extra one first and then the whole thing, but couldn’t get it to work.

Is it possible to uses the fancy options in extrude to do this, or do I have add a new sketch onto the first extruded surface? Thanks!

Two ways of doing it: Either extrude the whole area downward and then extrude the bits that should stand off upwards.

The other way is make one extrusion, and project the bit you want to extrude further onto that new top surface. From there you can just extrude that new sketch. I often do it this way, sketch out the entire outlines on one base *planning” sketch and then project elements of that to whatever surfaces I need them to be. Projecting sketch parts to a new surface is just a few clicks.

SWEET! Thanks!

I just discovered another approach. After the first extrusion, hide the body and do the second.
