Feature Request: Icons in Item List to Know When Objects Are Hidden

This feature has been requested before by numerous people, including myself. If we’re not going to get it, just say so. It seems like such a trivial thing to code and would save people hours from their time using Shapr3D

The problem that this feature will solve:

For people that are extremely organized and put items in folders and then nest those folders, like me, I spend minutes going through involved projects and making sure everything is turned on before I export it to be cut or printed.

Brief description of the outcomes that you expect from this feature:

Show an icon that is different from the “open eye” and the “hidden eye” to denote that there are items that are hidden a nested folder. I’ve even done the hard part for you and offered up some “eye” icons.

What can’t you achieve without this feature?
Honestly, after five years in Shapr3D, I’m sick of having to click through every single folder to see if something is turned off.

Hey.

Like this, right?

That is exactly it! looks amazing!

Actually I went a bit further, and tried to put it into a package that can make items a tiny bit better. So here are the changes you should expect:

Seeing what’s hidden

  • Hidden items now show a closed eye with lashes instead of the slashed eye, on both Apple devices and Windows. Visible items keep the open eye.
  • Folders now tell you when something inside them is hidden, even in nested subfolders, so you don’t have to open the folder to check. On Apple devices the folder gets a half-closed eye, which on macOS stays visible even when you’re not hovering the row. On Windows the half-closed eye isn’t ready yet, so those folders show the older hidden icon for now.
  • The eye no longer fades on hidden items. The name and icon still fade, but the eye keeps full strength and matches the color of the item’s name. It still dims when an item can’t be used in your current tool or when showing and hiding isn’t available.
  • On Apple devices, hovering the eye now shows a soft highlight behind it.

Sketches in bulk

  • Show Hidden Sketches brings back every hidden sketch, along with the folders they’re in.
  • Invert Sketch Visibility flips the visibility of every sketch.
  • They work like the existing body actions and respect isolation. You’ll find them in the sidebar’s More menu (“…” on Windows), and also in the menu bar on macOS and the Item menu on Windows.

Tidying up folders

  • Collapse All Folders and Expand All Folders do what they say, from the same menu.
  • Creating folders is more flexible now:
    • With nothing selected, the menu offers New Folder.
    • With one item selected, New Folder with Item wraps it. With several selected, Folder with Selection wraps them all.
    • Right-click an item that isn’t selected, with nothing else selected, to wrap just that item.
    • If you select a folder, the menu entry wraps it inside a new folder. The + button in the toolbar still creates an empty folder inside it, like before.
  • Right-clicking the empty space in the sidebar now opens the More menu, so you don’t have to reach for the toolbar. This works on both Apple devices and Windows.

Select all

  • With the Items sidebar focused, Cmd+A (Ctrl+A on Windows) now selects everything listed there, including folders and hidden items. Before, it only selected what was visible on the canvas. If you’ve filtered the list by type, it only selects that type.

Wow!

Now to perfection: Remember folder status (collapsed/expanded) in the project!
(Would save me hours with large stuctures - and keep me sane…)
