Gear Generation Tool

Creating gears is pretty painful in Shapr3d right now, and this would be a simple option for solving that

*I think the Tool should work like this:

One could create a tooth of the gear and then click on “Gear” tool. It would work similarly to the revolve tool, but would automatically create the needed amount of tooth based on the sizes of the give tooth and the diameter of the Gear, which one could define by dragging the origin of the tool (Similar to when one can change the diameter of an Arc by pulling the point in he middle)*

An easy tool for creating gears

It is actually hard to create gears, and very tidious. It still can be done, but is very annoying (At least to me)

In the meantime

untested

I know that there are these options, and also, that many people already suggested this, but still it would be great

Indeed, but imho this is (light) years off…

If you know the math behind involutes, you can create template parts reasonably easily that you can reuse or import into new parts. There is some much complexity in gear design, an internal tool would either be overly complicated, or severally limiting (worked as a gear designer for several years). Probably best to leave it up to standalone software that specialise in gears, or create rough “looks pretty” basic geometry parts and leave all the computations on the drawing for manufacturing etc.

Don’t get me wrong, would be an awesome feature, but gears as simple as they look, there is a lot to them, if you are designing custom gears, rarely are you using standard by the book calculations, so the tool needs to be able to compute form modification factors, profile crowning, root modifications. The list goes on. I have a spreadsheet for designing gears that would give people nightmares!

Yeah, thanks, I already sae one of your comments on gears. You’re right I guess, it wozld be pretty hard to develop
