While using Shapr3D yesterday, I repeatedly received “Graphics Device Disconnected” error messages that explained “Shapr3D lost access to the graphics adapter, causing the workspace to close.” This happened at variable intervals, ranging from approximately one to several minutes.
I had a similar problem a few times in the past with Shapr3D, but it never crashed as many times as it did yesterday (then just once, after which it restarted and ran normally). Notably, I haven’t made any changes to my Windows 11 computer recently. Also, when this problem occurred, it was always specific to Shapr3D; no other programs were affected. Device Manager reported that my graphics device (Intel UHD Graphics 630) is working correctly and has the most recent driver.
Thinking that my relatively large Shapr3D file may be the problem (even though it worked fine many times in the past), I tried a much smaller, simpler file (a single screw), which also experienced this “Graphics Device Disconnected” error message. My guess is that something with Shapr3D changed, because my computer hasn’t. Is there any way to circumvent this problem?
Connecting the dots, another user experienced the same problem ( Issues with an error saying disconnected from graphics adapter since the latest update. ). Major clue: that user also has Intel UHD 630 graphics. With only two data points, I cannot confidently conclude this Shapr3D glitch doesn’t affect other graphics adapters (it may be specific to UHD 630 after the latest Shapr3D update), but it strongly suggests that Shapr3D’s code change is the ultimate source of the problem, NOT my UHD 630 AND the UHD 630 of another user (Occam’s razor a.k.a. the principle of parsimony: the simplest explanation is usually the correct one).
Thank you for reporting this issue, our team is aware of the issue. We are investigating to identify the root cause, and working to resolve it as quickly as possible.
Another clue: I determined that the problem is not limited to Intel UHD Graphics 630 because I experienced the same problem on a laptop using Intel UHD Graphics 620.
Because I (and undoubtedly others) lost over a day of productivity so far, may I suggest a universal solution? Wherever such vexatious problems develop, immediately give users the ability to roll back to a prior stable version. Ideally, this would be integrated into Shapr3D’s menu structure so users could do that at any time.
Yet another clue that may be helpful to the developers in determining the source of the problem: I tried using my primary computer (with Intel UHD Graphics 630) but it experienced the “Graphics Device Disconnected” error message every few seconds. That problem also plagued my laptop with Intel UHD Graphics 620, so I installed Shapr3D on a Microsoft Surface Pro with a Microsoft SQ1 Adreno 685 GPU — no problem so far.
On another related thread ( Issues with an error saying disconnected from graphics adapter since the latest update - #10 by Morsecode ), you reported that version 26.40 might resolve this problem. When will the Microsoft Store offer version 26.40? I (as a paying customer) tried downloading Shapr3D from the Microsoft Store tonight. It refused to install, saying I had the latest version even though my installed version is 26.32. I therefore downloaded and installed 26.40 directly from Shapr3D but received a warning message to uninstall it because having two versions on my computer might cause data loss. Can I avoid that potential data loss by uninstalling version 26.32 on this computer and then installing version 26.40? I presume that would not put my data in jeopardy, correct?
