I have a large model that I have tried to export in the .usdz format. Unfortunately, Shapr seems to give the format a view frame that is too small for encompassing the entire model. I’ve tried just shrinking the model on my Mac screen, but the frame itself also shrinks. So the .usdz model, which I insert into a Keynote slide, is still clipped at the edges.
The file size of the model is 41.5 MB. The “physical size” of the model is 11.4 x 8.7 meters. The “physical size” encompassed by the window for the .usdz model is roughly equivalent to 4.8 x 5.8 meters.
I note that a usdz file of an earlier, less complex version of the same “physical size” model is 28.7 MB. This earlier model is completely within its window and is not clipped.
Just now I tried placing the latest (more Complex) version into Reality Composer and it works perfectly. That is, there is no clipping because there is no frame in the Composer. Anyway, I’d still like to have non-clipped usdz models in Keynote so that I can make adjustable presentations of the models.
It’s pretty damn cool that I can play with 3D models from Shapr3D on my Mac and iPad with Reality Composer.
Is this a file created in Shapr OR imported to Shapr and exported out to USDZ
Try putting simple box around 4 corners of your model and export it to USDZ.
Apple Preview app can open USDZ and preview it from there to see if it’s clipped.
BUT if you wanted to investigate you can also open the USDZ in Blender and see if some normals are flipped, if not reexport it out of Blender as USDZ.
I’m not sure if USDZ frames VIEW it’s a just a 3d model, but if Shapr does it that would be more of a Tech Support issue. You could also share that USDZ.
