How To Revolve Cut

Hi, I need to cut a groove in a cylindrical shape. I’ve sketched a shape, then revolved it, but I can only revolve it 359*, if I try to do 360* it disappears.

What is the best way to revolve a cut?

Thanks

While I’m at it, how am I supposed to know when I have the sketch aligned with the edge of inner cylinder? In Solidworks I can change to sketch view, which made it very easy. What do you do with Shapr? (arrow points to the sketch). Thanks.

  1. Choose “New body” and then subtract. 2) Section view might help.

Thanks, but I can’t create a body with that sketch. There seems to be something wrong with the sketch as I redid it with a circle and it auto-revolved 360*, and then I could subtract.

I’m still not sure how to locate the sketch though.

I chose the upper edge and made a plane. Choose the section view and then the plane. Now I can see.

Now sketch on the plane your cut you want. Or even multiple cuts

@Oregonerd already said all you need to know but here is a video for easier understanding.

Great video, thanks very much!

First, I’m sure you have your reasons but bit weird to have your sketch in that odd location since it seems you are working on axis.

But maybe this answers your sketch view question, note the purple dots.

LOL what about the much loved!

Right click SELECT THROUGH.
