Is there a way to go back to an older version?

A Hide all sketches button is another feature that’s been asked for and ignored many times.

The sketch filter bringing up pointless folders is an annoyance you had to get around and still do unfortunately.

This would have been the ideal time for them to implement something better but they apparently know more than we do about our jobs and what we need. ‘Get used to it.’

I personally had success downgrading with Time Machine, but if you have done anything with a newer version, file will then be incompatible.

Solution :
Before downgrading, export the file in .X_T format

Well Ive given it a try and it isnt working for me. I like the old version much better. The crashing issue is unbearable. Im already behind on work from trying to figure out this new version, then when it crashes I have to almost do everything all over again. Im not going to save the file after every single action, and seems to crash pretty frequently. No clue what causes it either. For the price I’m paying for this program just to get frustrated and make my work harder, I’m done. Just have to find a program as close to the old version of this one. Really disappointing because I did like working with the program. I guess these “minor” changes in the minds of the company is “major” for some of us. My aggravation with it is just not worth it anymore. Thanks but no thanks.

Obviously it should not crash. Apologies for that. If you can share the problematic project, we’ll fix the issue for the next release. You can share it directly with me or with our support team.

Anyone know off the top of their head, of a program that is as similar to the older version and will import STP files? Thanks, hopefully can get caught back up on work soon….

Of course you can import STEP files.

If you are on an iPad, there is nothing even remotely close to Shapr3D.

On desktop, in my opinion, Autodesk Fusion beats Sharp3D any time - even the free tier, because the restrictions are quite reasonable. I never quite understood why there is a Win/Mac version of Shapr3D. For me, the game changer is the pencil. For everything else, I can find a better alternative. For the pencil, there is none at all.

I’ve used both Fusion and Shapr3D on my MacBook Pro and I much prefer Shapr3D. Fusion is a resource hog and I’m constantly getting warnings from CleanMyMac X that Fusion is making heavy use of memory even when it’s just sitting idle (I have 32GB of RAM). I find the multitouch trackpad superior to my Apple Pencil for engineering type work. I could see where an artist might prefer the pencil, but I’m far from being an artist.

My sub is up in July and I will be cancelling if I can’t disable the parametric feature entirely. I’m very upset because there is nothing really like Shapr for iPad - but the implementation of this feature has been catastrophic, it has broken the workflow of so many people, and the company is not listening. Directly manipulating the 3D models, and using sketches like temporary jigs, was the thing that got CAD to finally ‘click’ for me - I am not an engineer, I am not working with thousand part assemblies, and I don’t use sketches at all in way the new system says I ‘should’. I invested time in learning how to use Shapr - and I don’t want to relearn it - especially when it has been foisted on me with no warning and no option to decline.

I understand the need to make decisions on the roadmap of a product - but this is not how you do it. I hope for your sake you are right, and you find a growing user base who want what you have built - but I think you have profoundly misunderstood the needs of tour users, and what your unique value proposition was in the market.

Agreed. It is a helpful feature to toggle on and off, but everything is contingent upon each other, and the system doesn’t warn you that you’re removing crucial objects. I now have to ditch the ‘offset tool’ because it makes a new layer, and then the ‘project’ tool keeps crashing the application. Even if it didn’t crash, it’s a tool that I shouldn’t have to use when I am deliberately using the same plane. Then if I alter the same sketch to create a similar design (and hide the old one), I discover the previous object has been deleted or fucked up.

I’ve never been this enraged about anything. I don’t appreciate the condescending responses to your customers who hate the new update. This is more than an issue of “parametric modelling can be confusing.” It completely alters the content people worked hard to create, and you offer no other solutions. Just re-release the old version before this fiasco until you can make the new version efficient for both types of users.

As a relative newcomer to S3D, I’m struggling a bit to see what users are so upset about. From my understanding, those who don’t want to use parametric modeling don’t have to. If you hide your sketches (only show bodies) and close the history panel, things are pretty much the same as before parametric modeling. This seems like a very minor compromise. What am I missing here?

I would not be here if S3D did not have parametric modeling. While Fusion is far more capable (to echo a previous comment, I really want proper assemblies too!) I prefer S3D’s cleaner / more elegant UI, better performance (it just feels snappier than Fusion), and lower pricing. I also like supporting upstart companies that place a high priority on UX.

As you mature with modeling, you will improve your workflow. A big part of that is creating folders and naming objects, sketches, planes and sorting them to different folders to easily hide certain objects. Or use the built in features to show only bodies, etc. Listening to one user who refuses to adapt to more mature modeling rather than allowing the workflow of both professionals and amateurs alike is not reasonable or good collaboration with the designers. You may have 100+ sketches because you are duplicating them after deleting or hiding a previous sketch. I have done this myself when I started out.
