im sure this wouldnt be too much SwiftUI rework in xcode but it would be nice to have the UI use native liquid glass in the app. like, mostly having the items and history sidebar menus be transparent. check out the latest Pixelmator Pro update apple put out for some UI inspiration ![]()
If I may, please don’t.
I am one of those who is really hoping someone with a brain at Apple realizes that their path regarding UI is broken. Rounded corners on square objects? This isn’t supposed to be a knock off of Battlestar Galactica. And the glass stuff? Looks good in screenshots but sure makes a mess of the UI when trying to read the screen!
I really shouldn’t hijack your comment @spencersmitty. The last few updates of the Mac OS have really annoyed me and I just couldn’t resist complaining about it again.
No!

you shouldnt feel bad for ‘hijacking’ my comment, everyone is welcome to share their opinion, thats why there is an ability to reply!
i think the latest macOS update has some flaws for sure but i think the glass is neat. its hard to read i agree with you, but theyve made efforts of switching between light and dark backgrounds dynamically based on the content underneath which is at least an attempt at improving legability. not perfect though, i see both sides ![]()
heres an example of what it could look like, i think its quite nice, with the proper blur i dont think legibility would be an issue. sometimes it can be hard to read text when there is a really complex photo underneath, but Shapr is just using a black/white viewport depending on your computers theme. anyways..
I think Glass ui is good as long as they let us turn it off.
I would want it off but I think thats a users preference.
While I think it kinda looks good over a static image, as soon as you scroll or in this case zoom/rotate I think it can get very distracting.
Personally I don’t want any transparency anywhere where there is a layer list, just simple black or white. I also imagine if you strip away any of these fancy shadows, blur and other ui enhancements how much faster or snappier app would feel.
you can’t really ‘turn off’ the glass effect. it’s a native SwiftUI sidebar style baked into the app, so either shapr adopts the system style now, or does it later eventually anyway. there isn’t really a per-user toggle for glass inside any app.
any mac that runs the current macOS already handles these effects fine. the system ui already uses transparency and blur all over the place and it doesn’t cause performance issues. shapr already uses transparency in the sidebar currently, anyways
this is something i should have just been able to email to shapr as a suggestion but were kinda forced to use these forums i guess
