It would be useful to use an iPhone as a persistent AR viewport while editing the same project on an iPad. The iPhone would display the model in its real-world position, while the iPad remains the device used to edit it.
Example workflow:
- Open a project on the iPad and start a live AR preview on a nearby iPhone.
- Place the model in the intended real-world location and set its scale.
- Keep the iPhone’s AR view anchored while making changes on the iPad.
- Send those changes to the iPhone in real time, preserving the model’s position, orientation, and scale.
This could be useful for several workflows:
- Design and fit checks: Review the size, clearance, and proportions of furniture, fixtures, enclosures, or other products in their intended location, and adjust the model while seeing the result in AR.
- Client reviews: Show a client a full-scale AR model on the iPhone, make requested changes on the iPad, and let them see each revision in place.
- Product presentations and advertising: Film the AR model in a real setting, then switch between configurations, materials, colors, or assembled and exploded states from the iPad while keeping the iPhone’s view and framing in place.
- Design reviews and collaboration: Compare design options in context without repeatedly exporting the model, reopening AR, and placing it again.
A view-only mode on the iPhone would be enough; all editing could remain on the iPad. Controls to pause the preview, reset the anchor, or reposition the model would also be useful.
Consider adding screenshots and as many details as possible, to help the Shapr3D team and the community understand why you need this feature. Describing your workflow helps us building the right feature.
Brief description of the outcomes that you expect from this feature:
Eg. “this feature should allow me to edit and create constrained assemblies with 100 000+ parts” or “using this feature I should be able to create G2 continuous lofts and manipulate the shape real time” or “with this feature I want to be able to quickly find a part in my designs by searching for its name”.
Understanding the outcomes that you expect from this feature helps us more than describing an actual implementation of the feature that you’d expect.
What can’t you achieve without this feature?
Is this a workflow blocker for you? Is this why you can’t use Shapr3D for work? Is this slowing you down?
