Parts from my first drawing in another drawing, how can I do that?

Hello everyone,

I would appreciate some assistance. I am new to this program and am working on recreating a WWII battleship at a specific scale for personal enjoyment. I am currently trying to decide whether to include all details in a single drawing or to separate them for future use.

So far, I have begun by drawing each deck on a separate page (e.g., the first deck, second deck, etc.). My main question is related to transferring parts between drawings. I need to use components from one drawing in another deck, but I am unsure how to do this effectively within the program.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Manny,
if I know beforehand that I have to reuse certain parts or items I make a separate file for each item. Then I export as shapr or step to a parts folder and import into my model where I need the part.

To be honest that is quite cumbersome, but since we don’t have a part and assembly function in shapr3D I see no other way. The lack of copy and paste between models is not helping either. I hope that those functions will be implemented in the near future.

Thank you for sharing your insights. It appears that many of us are encountering similar challenges. I appreciate your input. May I ask another question? Should I consolidate all of my ship’s deck levels into a single project, or would it be more effective to create separate projects for each deck? Given the level of detail involved in each deck, I’m concerned that a single file may not be practical for 3D printing. What approach would you recommend?

Depending on the level of detail you plan to implement into your project the work with shapr3D might get a bit slow if you put everything into a single project. If feasible I would work with different projects per deck.
The performance you can expect from shapr3D depends mostly on the single thread speed of your machine and that you have enough RAM for your project.
