Birch Plywood Material with Surface and Cross-Section Textures
The problem that this feature will solve:
When designing furniture or woodworking projects, birch plywood is one of the most commonly used real-world materials.
However, in Shapr3D’s current material library, there is no realistic plywood option that shows both the wood grain surface and the layered edge texture of the cross-section.
Without this, renderings of furniture or panel-based designs look less natural and less representative of real-world materials.
Adding a birch plywood texture with both surface and cross-section details would allow users to present their designs more realistically — especially when showing exposed edges in joinery, shelving, or CNC-cut parts.
Brief description of the outcomes that you expect from this feature:
This feature should allow me (and other users) to:
-
Apply a birch plywood material that includes both surface grain and cross-section layers.
-
Generate realistic visualizations of furniture and wood-based products directly within Shapr3D.
-
Clearly communicate design intent to clients or manufacturers without relying on external rendering tools.
This would greatly enhance the visual realism and professional presentation quality of woodworking projects.
What can’t you achieve without this feature?
Without a true birch plywood material, I have to manually simulate it by applying different wood textures to faces, which is time-consuming and never looks quite right.
This slows down the workflow and reduces the realism of design presentations, especially when showing exposed edges or laminated parts.
Adding this feature would make Shapr3D a more complete tool for woodworkers, furniture designers, and makers.
