Selection Clarity

The problem that this feature will solve:

The selection of edges and faces still leaves a bit to be desired when it comes to clarity. To illustrate the issue, here’s a quick video:

I have 3 edges selected here, the one on the right isn’t. When my mouse cursor is complete off the object, this is evident. However, when my mouse cursor is still hovering over the adjacent face, it will highlight all its edges the exact same way as the 3 edges I have already selected. There is no visual distinction between already selected edges and the components of the element about to be selected.

There is a slight change in brightness for the face I’m hovering over, however in more complicated scenarios this is barely perceptible. So to see what I’ve already selected with complete clarity, it is always required to zoom out and move the cursor off the object.

I feel this could be improved, for example by having two different colors for elements already selected and the visualization of mouse-over elements. I’d love to hear some other suggestions about this.

Another feature I’d absolutely love is an option to re-select. It happens all too often that after for example beveling a number of edges, I notice I forgot to select one. After undoing the bevel action, the selecting has to start all over again. A button to re-select all the elements again would be extremely helpful.

Brief description of the outcomes that you expect from this feature:

Any way to clearly distinguish already selected elements from those the mouse merely hovers over would be hugely appreciated.

What can’t you achieve without this feature?

In its current implementation, the selection visualization often feels ambiguous.
