Shapr totally nails the design of these plastic injection‑molded shells

I use Shapr exclusively for designing these products. My colleagues, who are used to UG, SolidWorks, and Creo, are genuinely amazed by Shapr’s logic and modelling speed.

What makes Shapr3D unique for your workflow? Which features help you be more productive, and what features do you still feel are missing?

Because it’s AC power, haha.

Shapr3D, in its fundamental logic, is not deeply tied to sketches and datums, which allows me to perform feature modeling quickly. The touch‑based interaction gives an unparalleled boost to modeling speed, so in the vast majority of cases Shapr3D is far faster than UGNX, SolidWorks, and other CAD tools.

I hope that future updates will refine the sketching logic. In terms of the actual sketching workflow, we usually start from a reference that we intend to fix, and then fit toward the free end. However, during the subsequent dimension‑adjustment phase, I find that sketch elements often jump erratically, forcing me to frequently undo steps and lock key sketch points. Some aspects of this logic seem suboptimal, but my limited English prevents me from detailing the exact logical differences.

Surface modeling has now become a must‑have skill for every structural design engineer and industrial designer. For Shapr3D, the current surface capabilities are still relatively limited. I am not sure about the team’s roadmap for this area, but there is no doubt that upgrading these features is essential for a CAD software that is meant to guide production‑ready designs.

Performance lag is another critical issue. Whether on iPad or PC, the software becomes noticeably sluggish after a few hours of continuous use. I have several models with over 10,000 bodies, and opening such a model takes more than 10 minutes, which prevents me from finishing those designs. I sincerely hope this can be optimized further.

I have been using Shapr3D for about 7 years, and I am familiar with its many features and have experienced numerous versions. I have watched Shapr3D evolve from an early lightweight modeling tool into an advanced CAD application that, under specific use cases, can stand alongside UGNX. That feels truly great. It’s battery. Bearings are shot, battery is dying. I can replace the battery and get more use. I will miss it dearly when it dies. :saluting_face:
