Shapr3d needs a Thicken command

A THICKEN command

I’m pretty sure I’m not the only person out there who would love to see this in the tool stack! It’s one of my major bugbears with Shapr3d and one of the reasons I’m still yet to be fully onboard.

When working on ideas and design iterations I utilise 3d printing which dependent on the printer involves a varied array of tolerances due to nozzle sizes, type of filament etc. The modelling of which tends to involve boolean commands to get parts to slide, connect and fit together.

I use other software to do this as it has the thicken command available meaning I can quickly adjust the fit tolerance by adjusting the size of the model to include the addition or subtraction of material from the parts upon making a boolean operation. It’s quick and effective.

I’m sure there are workarounds in Shapr3d and if anyone knows of a quick one it’d be nice to know.

Sorry if I’m reiterating something that has already been mentioned.

Can you show us an example of this command result?

To create clearances for parts that need be fitted together I usually just use the face offset tool. Requires to select the faces of the insert, but with the common rectangle shape insert that’s just 5 faces. Takes a few seconds.

You can of course pre-define the offset in your sketch, but offsetting after the body is created I find much faster and easier. Plus its easy to change the clearance after the fact by simply editing the offset in your history.

Why can’t you just select the faces you want to “thicken” and then use the move tool to move those faces to where you want them?
