The problem that this feature will solve:
When modeling with reference images, one likes to keep the images visible at all times. They already have an opacity slider, which is great. However, since they are always selectable, they tend to get in the way of selecting geometries and sketches, requiring either to toggle them on and off constantly or maneuver around them.
Brief description of the outcomes that you expect from this feature:
A toggle on image items to keep them visible but non-selectable would be a big help.
What can’t you achieve without this feature?
The current implementation is not a deal breaker, but the reference images do get in the way a lot.
