Understanding workflow on inmported steps

I’m trying to better learn Shapr3D, coming from nurbs modelers like Rhino. If I have an imported step file like this:

And I wanted to remove the bar glyph, how would I go about it?
In nurbs, I’d probably take the object apart, remove the holes and then rejoin it. In Fusion, it can automatically heal holes.

How would I do this in Shapr3D?

Thanks

Judging from photo I think split body can manage that. Just split unnecessary bars and delete them. Face offset can be used too but not the best solution in this case. And of course replace face

Thanks for that. That was my inclination, but I was not 100% sure.

Replace Face might work as well.

You can also just simply select the protrusions and delete them.

Oh, my gosh, you’re right. I just had to be very careful to select all faces of it.

It would be nice if select though or some other mechanism could help filter selections to connected faces.

Here’s a couple of ways. The first is using Replace Face.

Select through is available: https://support.shapr3d.com/hc/en-us/articles/7770768736924-Selecting-geometry

Doesn’t work on a curved surface.

could be my curved surface is more simple?

Interesting. I cannot get it to work on my iPad.

Try it on this part.

TestDiscGlyph.step (19.2 KB)

maybe a bug?

I think you are right.

I assume the secret is in selecting only faces. Here is your step file (notice I’m using selection filter):

so i didn’t use any special section feature, it was just drag from left to right but avoiding full selection of a face other than ones i wanted to delete.

This way, it isn’t working for me either :slightly_smiling_face: But with filtering, it works like a charm.

I know whats going on! I have updated Shapr on my desktop and I too can’t reproduce what I just did. Like mike said I also couldn’t do it on the iPad without the face select toggled.

I have been making those videos on the laptop, on a older version of Shapr which it seems let us do it more simple way.

Have you tried this on your iPad?

If so, where is the “Area Selection filter” on the iPad?

I sold mine.

During selection (don’t rise the pencil, keep touching the screen), filter will appear on the side
