Yup, bottom left. Easier to just tap with my thumb.
Bottom as before.
Istvan, hi. If UNDO/REDO is close to the thumb, bottom of screen, left side, the way it was before, you click to open with you thumb, then travel with apple pencil and choose the layer.
If is on top of the screen, besides the split screen problem with iOS, you have to travel with apple pencil, click it, then travel again to the selected layer. Or, you can choose to move your hand holding the ipad and click with your hand. It is awkward and inefficient. The way it was before work.
Another way is to find simpler shortcuts, like two fingers double tap, or apple pencil double tap. We need to undo/redo fast. It was better before, but can be improved, if the interface let anyone choose the personal custom best position.
Best regards. M
Yes Bottom
+1 for the bottom
Thanks for the fantastic feedback here, folks, this really helps.
Could I ask you for one more thing? Could you take a photo (or even better, a video) of how you typically use and hold your iPad when using Shapr3D, showing the position of your hand and your pencil?
It looks like what is comfortable depends a lot on your usage habits that tend to vary a lot ā eg. whether you use the side menu and undo/redo (in its original location) with the pencil, your thumb or other fingers, whether you rest your hand at the middle of screen or below it etc.
While planning the new layout we did try to consider a wide variety of these habits and setups and we did internal & external user tests with prototypes with a diverse set of users, but we couldāve missed some configurations. Seeing such photo would be super useful to see if weāve missed something.
Well I wanted to say something that has happened to me with the new interface
In my opinion everything seems very organized and the colors and designs look very professional.
Now as for these buttons that everyone is talking about, I have seen a problem that I donāt know if anyone else has seen it, here I will leave some photos of the problem
It turns out that on the iPad there are three points in the upper center of the screen exactly where these buttons are and in my case sometimes the iPad menu is activated when in reality what I want is to go back in the design that I am doing.
I think this is indeed a problem.
I repeat the Ipad menu sometimes interferes with the shapr3d undo and undo buttons in their new position.
This happens sometimes not always everything else for me is fine and I like the new interface
Another vote for the bottom.
Thatās where the hands rest, due to gravity, and any frequent journey upward (undo/redo are frequently touched) requires more effort, more strain.
Just wanted to add that I spent a bunch of time with the new version in the last few days and this isnāt a āchange is hardā thing. Itās a āthis was a bad changeā thing. Even as I get used to it, this is an annoying place to put something so essential and frequently touched, like if youād moved the toilet paper outside the bathroom.
Great analogy!
+1 for bottom left.
Iāve been using the new interface for a few weeks, and after getting accustomed to the UI, I find it really nice for the most part. The icons are great with good contrast and the labels popping out when I hover the Pencil help reinforce my memory. Iāll turn that off in the future. I am right handed, use an iPad and Apple Pencil. About 75% of time, the iPad is connected to the Magic Keyboard, and the other time, just the iPad held with left hand. Almost always I have the Items side panel open which puts the tools out of thumb reach, so the Pencil is my method of selecting tools. That works for me. Kudos to the Shapr3d teams for the update and the five star presence on the forums to help customers.
Prior to the update I didnāt use the keyboard shortcuts very much because it was easier to keep my focus on the screen and tap tap with the Pencil to do what I wanted to do. I donāt want to put the pencil down and will often poke at the right hand side of the keyboard with the pencil while the left is hitting ā ā or other left side keys. This works, but Iād rather not have to look down to hit P to project; so Iāll hit the (more ā¦) icon and tap the P from there.
The search icon doesnāt do much for me, yet. I am hoping that at some time it will search and identify design item names and not just commands.
To import/export, the shortcut keys are useful. For me, these actions are (necessary) interruptions to sketching or modeling and the pencil goes to its rest on top of the iPad and Iāll use my finger for selecting, and type with both hands or use the on screen keyboard.
The icons at the top, with the exception of undo/redo are used only on occasion. And this top set of icons is different. They do not get the labels popping out when hovering the Pencil, which if fine, but they are different. And the undo/redo pair really seem out of place.
I have changed my habits. When using iPad with keyboard, now Iāll use ā Z to undo (with the old UI this was pencil tap). That is ok. When Iām not using a keyboard, I still want to sweep to the lower left with my pencil then interrupt my workflow to hit undo/redo. When I finally hit the target, I have waved my arm over my work and lose visual focus to watch the undo (or several undoās) to look at the design to see the details. (Interference etc.)
I agree with many who have voiced their Lower Left preference for the undo and redo icons.
Over the years, Iāve appreciated the regular updates to Shapr3d and look forward to see how it evolves.
Weāll put the undo/redo buttons where they were. Thank you for the feedback, community.
