What is this spider aspect

I created a mold using imported step files. Once I’ve cut the mold in two parts and substracted the positive piece inside the inside of the mold is showing this spyder aspect texture.
I cannot really select it, only parts of it. Above all I would like to understand how to deal with this.
Thanks for your help

Hi Michel,
My guess is that the step file had been converted from a mesh file, like STL. You would have the same difficulty selecting a whole face on the step file as you do in your mold.
The best way to deal with this is to model the part anew in Shapr3d. It appears there is a plane of symmetry, so you only need to model half then use mirror to get the other side.

Try using loft. Start with the original step file. Split it in half on that symmetry plane and delete (or hide) one side. Add more planes that are offset from the first plane and split the remaining part into a few pieces. Each piece is a slice of the object. Take each slice and carefully sketch the profile. This will be like tracing; use spline with fit points, lines and arcs… what ever you need to get as close as possible to the original. The fewer individual segments (splines, lines, arcs) the better, i.e. use as few as possible but as many as you need to get a good profile.

Now you have a number of cross section sketches. Try lofting them. That should be pretty close to the original shape. You can get closer by adding rails to guide how the loft is done. Search on guided loft here in the forum and in the manual.

This looks like a wing design. There are others here in the forum that have posted about lofting and guided lofts of their wing designs that would be useful information.

Other than recreating the model, I don’t know of a way in Shapr3d to get rid of the spider effect.
Good Luck!

Thanks Bob for this detailed post. I do understand how to create wings with cross section profiles, it is not easy but I can give it another try.
In this particular case, the step file is a stl that have been converted in step. The stl come from a specialised tool for aero profiles ths simplifies a lot the process thus automatising many operations. But this tool only delivers stl thatis not suitable to re-work inside shapr3d.
I also need to understand the actual properties of Stp files vs stl in order to raise my skills.
