5.810 - Fully-defined sketches

Refine your sketches with better control and visuals, plus a Webviewer update for easier sharing.

  • New: Now you can fully define and under define sketches by applying dimensional and geometric constraints, giving you control over which elements stay fixed and which remain adjustable.
  • Improved: Sketch visuals now use clearer color cues—fully-defined sketches are green, under-defined sketches are blue, selected sketches are highlighted in orange, and errors are marked in red.
  • Improved: Webviewer now offers better access control with email-based sharing replacing password-protected links. You can share your designs publicly, within your team, or with individuals you invite to review and comment.

Very nice update on iPad. The color changes and color indicators are very informative and visually appealing.
They do indeed, reduce cognitive overhead.
Also, an aesthetically pleasing interface has always been important to me and Shapr3D has nearly always met or exceeded my expectations in that regard.

The thinner dimension lines and arrowheads in sketch mode are nice. Though the numbers of the dimensions still seem to be a bit larger than necessary. They work fine as is, but a reduction to 75% or 80% might be nice.

I see that this update still has not fixed the issue with dashboard thumbnails. The thumbnails still show a fixed 3/4 view, instead of the camera view when the file was saved.
Specifying the thumbnail view is an important part of finding my designs on my dashboard, and in the interest of reducing cognitive overhead, I’d sure appreciate it if you could resolve this issue by restoring the original behavior that I’ve relied on for so many years.

Thanks for all you do. Shapr3D ongoing development continues to impress me.

Is there any way to turn the grid off to hide it that would make it a lot easier to see the different colored lines better.

Thank you

If you are going for fully defined sketch grid becomes less important.

Great point…

It looks like this update has broken the ability to access sketches on different planes like you could before.

Example:

Create a cube
Draw a line on the top face
use the navigation cube to access the front view

The previous version would show the the start and end points of the line you drew o the top face even if you were now in the front view.

The current version only shows the start and end points when you’re on the plane it was created on.

First noticed this when I was following the variables tutorial on Youtube:

You can’t complete the step from 10:13 thorough to 11:03

I tried this on an iPad Mini that hadn’t updated and it worked. My iPad Pro (updated) didn’t work.

Below - previous version, sketches are on top plane but I can draw a connecting sketch on the front plane: Version: 5.800.0.8232

Below - new version, I cant see the sketches on the top plane from the front plane: Version: 5.811.0.8360
