@KeithR To escape the tutorials, I would suggest just looking around and finding an object you would like to model, Don’t think too much about how difficult it might be, just get stuck in and go as far as you can. If you get stuck on something, Google and YouTube and the forum here are your friends.
If you can’t go any further on a project, postpone it and start a different one. After a while your increased knowledge will allow you to return to the postponed project and overcome the problems you had with it.
We are all learning. I agree with @Stephen. I personally find it best to just start trying out a new tool and just try and make something. As you get stuck try and find the answer to your current question. At first, you will need to look a lot up but over time you will be the source of the answers
Folks here are super helpful, too so ask and I bet you get a great answer (or even five great answers).
There is a tweak which would really help when you have a drawing with hundreds or thousands of objects. When selecting an item then go to view in layers to turn off its visibility for example, the item is highlighted, but you have to scroll up or down to find it. It would be easier that when you selected an item and went to view it in layers, it was there in view rather than hunting for the object that has a blue highlight on it.
What i find annoying is that when you use a (tools) function and press Done, You return to the main menu, while I often find myself wanting to execute the same tool function again on other parts of the design. So return to the Tools list would be much better than return to the main menu
Can design works be grouped together into single folder? UI can simply duplicate the Procreate… hold the design work, drag to on top of one design work to create folder, or finger hold the design work and drag to existing folder….
Cage deformed similar to cage edit in Rhino?
- Group individual files into folders/projects.
- Additional visualization materials (third party accessible).
- Isolate multiple selections.
- Various backgrounds within visualization.
- Automated camera movements in visualization (ability to make a gif or video of your part rotating on display)
You can have a selection of multiple bodies and then isolate.
The missing thing in my opinion: un-isolate certain bodies from the browser.
I do agree with the urge of folders for designs.
For rendering, what about no background option? (Transparent)
Display dual dimension mm/" in both the Design and Drawing environments.
There is a transparent environment option in visualization, as well as in the screenshot tool on the Apple platforms.
My Bad, haven’t noticed it!
Apologies.
The ability to export an image of our project in larger size then screen area would be great. As it is, exported images seem to be just screenshots, lacking in finer details.
Being able to set export format and dimensions and PPI similar to Photoshop would be ideal.
Search feature for designs, please.
First of all, I must say this is a hell of an app already, well done to the team, and thank you!
But here are a couple of features I feel like that can take it to the next level:
Workflow
-
Saved Perspectives or Camera Angle Memory (where you could save a view point/s to return back to)
-
Option when selecting a body or folder/s and adding or moving it to an existing or new design project(file)
Visualise
-
a form of water or liquid texture (which could be used in designs with body/ies of water, + possibly some simple physics such as the rounded borders on the surface and such)
-
Paper Textures (for books, origami, and artworks…)
-
Since having every wood type or metal finish would indeed be a lot of work, having a Classic or Standard option for materials to change the color could be a good alternative and give a little more customization choices (like a basic wood texture with the option to change color)
Saving
-
a way to organize and sort the design projects in groups or folders
-
option to hide the grid and outlines of projects for the “Designs” Homepage previews
100% onboard with being able to save custom angles in Visualise.
Also, being able to save a colour palette of a model in Visualise. So you could make multiple colour ways of a model inside the one file, and switch between them easily. Currently having to create multiple files to do this is clunky
Apologies for not reading the whole thread, its long! I think it would be useful to be able to:
- Create object instances; so if you change a bracket or something, all other instances of it would update. This would speed up modeling a lot. I don’t mean from sketch like other systems, i mean from the direct modeler. Maybe a special copy mode.
- Be able to create a “parts library” - i know you can’t make every screw and bolt on the planet, but if i could make some and be able to reuse them that’d be great. Especially if i could bake in the Boolean (like a pocket hole screw coming with the pocket) of the part going through the two parts its fastening.
- I don’t know how many other people use this for woodworking/cabinet making, but a “sheet good” solver, that you can use against an object made of various planer parts, and come up with optimal cut patterns would be really cool. (I know this can be done by hand)
- The ability to specify in drawings, that lines are “hairline” or for much higher resolution PDFs.
Thanks!
I see that this says the copy and paste should be available back in 2016. How do you do it? I really need to be able to do this. I need to be able to copy something from one design and paste it into another design.
- Copy/paste from one design to another
- Folders to organize designs
- Search function to find designs
GREETINGS!
I am loving this app, if only all CAD was this lightweight and fluid, well solid, but easy to work.
I’ve been in the app working around and I can think of a few things, but not before I throw some shade at other CAD and 3d modeling apps. When will the other guys start providing high quality materials, and superior USDZ file compatibility, your importing accepts models with organic faces & exports files readable by all other software in one way or another. When I first began I designing with this app, it had rigid constraints of use and mapping was some time difficult due to the requirement of the manual interface (dragging to and frough) this is now by far ‘in light years’ the easiest to pick up and design app on the market!
I made a small post outside of this one, in the spirit of modularity & simplicity I’m posting my feature request and praise in one post.
