High vertacies and when lowering them in blender it is gappy because vertices not correct

Hey, I’m a beginner and need some help with a surfboard model. I’ve narrowed the issue down to how shapr3d exports .gbl files and idk how to fix that but here’s some things I’ve tried in blender.

My friend exported it from Shapr3D as a GLB so we can keep the colours/textures and keep things like the fins as separate meshes. The problem is that whenever I use Decimate, Un-Subdivide, or cleanup tools, I get really bad cracks/gaps between the surfaces.

I’ve tried Merge by Distance, cleaning the meshes individually, merging everything together first, and even Decimating just one surface, but I still get cracks.

We previously exported it as one OBJ, and Decimate worked fine on that, so I’m confused about why the GLB behaves differently.

I also tried Remesh, but that either gives me really low-quality geometry or lots of gaps.

I’m a complete noob, so could someone explain why this is happening and how I can reduce the vertices without getting gaps, preferably in simple step-by-step terms?

Thanks!

Hi! We created a support ticket for you. Could you share the design with us there? Thanks!
