Joining sketch line

Hi there!

I am trying to join all the lines in this sketch so I can export it as an svg file to cut out on my Shaper origin as when I currently export it the lines are not linked.

I’ve searched and played around with some settings but can not work it out although I’m sure I did it last year so wondering if it’s an update or something that has changed something.

Many thanks.

Hi,
Verify your Constraints and choose Coincident.

I’m not sure I understand, I’ve added a screen shot of the options available but none are highlighted so guessing they can not be changed.

Hi Jason,

The smaller “rounded” rectangle is a closed sketch. You can tell because of the dot in the middle of the end points of the segments. Your screen shot does not include all of the larger sketch.

Another indicator is when you get out of sketching, you would be able to select the closed face, like if you were going to extrude it.

You say “not linked.” Is that an error you get with SO?
Can you open your exported SVG file in a different app?

Since you searched, you have seen the many posts regarding Shaper Origin.

I suggest start small. Something like a circle. Make sure that works in a predictable fashion. And when you do rediscover the magic recipe, add it to your topic here on the forum so you and others can find it again!

So I had a little play today by opening up a new sketch and starting with some basic shapes as suggested but still no luck, I’ve added screen shots from the initial sketch to export and then a small video on the shaper, it didn’t seem to do this in the past so I’m semi convinced that an update has changed a setting along the way although I have no idea what it could be or how to fix it.

Hi Jason,

Here are some things to try:

Export your SVG geometries as polylines. It looks like this used to be called, “join segments” which sounds like what you need.

Or, try running your SVG file through Shaper Studio:
{from Shaper Origin} Note that SVG’s exported from Shapr3D may not work perfectly with Origin–to improve your experience we recommend running all Shapr3D SVGs through Shaper Studio to ensure they’re place properly and edit the paths for cut type, depth, bit size, etc.

Or, try a different export format like DXF.

Good Luck!
