(Modeled) thread tool

The problem that this feature will solve:
It will save us/me a lot of headache and time creating threads. I just want to be able to select a cilindric shape, choose a format (m4,m5 etc etc) and also an option for custum dimensions and also be able to change the rotation and length—> not only the thread length but also if you’d screw it how deep it will go.
“Why do we need modeled threads” simple not only for 3d printing but also for industrial use. I need this tool to make accurate threaded designs without having to switch to solidworks.

What can’t you achieve without this feature?
Easy and fast thread creations
Is this a workflow blocker for you? Is this why you can’t use Shapr3D for work? Is this slowing you down?
It is slowing me down and its already been 3 years and im still waiting so please this isnt some silly request but there are a lot of users asking for it. It doesnt have to be a 10/10 all in one tool u can add a simple thread tool for now and update and improve it over time

The typical workaround is to go to McMaster-Carr’s website and download STEP files for screws and nuts pertaining to the threads you need.

it costs money per model

nevermind its free

Thanks for this great tip. Also, now that we have folders, we can have a thread library for import into models!

Hi, I’ve looked at McMaster-Carr’s website (enormous!) and found threaded rod, but cannot find any STEP files. Can you point me in the right direction please. Thanks

It’s usually in the dropdown.

Many thanks, found the files. However, when I import (after removing the “.html”) I get:

Tried SLDPRT and STEP

Try these I went and downloaded it, I’m on desktop it open ok.

95245A166_Grade B7 Medium-Strength Steel Threaded Rod.IGS (1.6 MB)
95245A166_Grade B7 Medium-Strength Steel Threaded Rod.STEP (1.3 MB)

Yes, both of these I import OK. I tried to download again and this time it didn’t add .html on the filename, and imported. I don’t know what I did differently but seems OK now. Many thanks for your help.

Interestingly, I downloaded the 3D model for the Threaded Rods with Hex Nuts and although the threaded rod is modelled OK, the nuts do not have the thread! Simple to fix, by removing the ‘hole’ in the nut and then subtracting the threaded rod. I guess these models are just for external appearance.

If you need custom threads, Freecad is a good option but no iPad, only desktop.

Fastner Workbench Addon.

Recently, Safari only downloads html, even when I select the 3D-step file. It works with Chrome (I’m using an iPad).

I use Safari on both my iMac Pro and iPad Pro.
I can download STEP files from McMaster on both devices.

Yes, just discovered that it depends on which browser. On iMac Chrome works but Safari doesn’t. Opera work as expected too.

Since last november, I cant download with my M4 Ipad…maybe settings??

Are you using the McMaster-Carr app?
I’m not. I download directly from the McMaster website via Safari. No special settings.
I too have an M4 iPad Pro.

Today morning try(8.04) to download with my phone , at first show error, but later fixed.
At now nothing again…

With Chrome, ok:

In Safari, check extensions and “manage extensions.” Here you can turn them on/off one by one to see if one of them is preventing downloads.
