Hello! I am brand new to the world of CAD, 3D printing, and Shapr. I used Sketchup years ago for woodworking but it was only a few times.
I am currently using Shapr3D on my iPad Pro, on the free account (I’m thinking about upgrading but not settled yet). I am wanting to create a small tray for water tests that I use for my saltwater aquarium that I want to print on a new 3D Printer for myself. I have it designed most of the way.
How will I know if the product is “hollow” or if it’s solid? If it is “hollow,” how can I determine the thickness of the walls?
Also, are there tutorials for Shapr Noobies / Shapr Dummies? I did the tutorials when you first download the app but I need more handholding than that, for now lol
Thanks for the video link. I need one dumbed down more than that. Yea, I know this is a CAD program and not Tinker software lol. I can’t even follow why he was doing what he was doing and what all the terms mean.
Here’s a simple tray I made on my iPad Pro. It is 6" x 8" x 1" deep with a wall thickness of my choosing, 0.1". After making a rectangle sketch 6x8 you can extrude to a thickness of 1". I did a secondary operation after the extrude and made the top surface with a 10° draft.
After that, use the Shell tool to determine the wall thickness.
To show some versatility, I undid the shell and made a fillet radius on all 4 corners followed by a shell at 0.1" wall thickness. The part has nice radii at the corners and is suitable for 3D printing.
Thank you for that! Very helpful way to see what you were doing. If I wanted to make a tray with a solid top but had spaces for bottles or specific sizes of things - think a rectangle with holes in it - could I do it using the shell feature? I know that’s not right lol but it’s what I can think of at the moment.
