Adding a fillet to chamfered edges

Hi all,

Apologies for my ignorance (I am a beginner) but I’m having an issue where I’m designing a stove top cover out of wood and I’d like to run a fillet (or a 5 mm round over) around all the edges for a nicer smoother feel. The problem is this edge is formed from the joining of two 45° mitres/chamfered edges. When I select the edge it only fillets one side of the two bodies.

I understand if I use the “union” tool to combine these two faces then I get the desired result however the union tool then doesn’t accurately represent the mitre and removes the 45° line in between them.

Could someone please help me?

thanks in advance team.

An quick workaround for you might be splitting the body with a plane. Select an edge to make a plane on a curve.

Rotate the plane

Split the body with the plane.

Thanks @Oregonerd. I have tried what you suggested and helped me a lot, however, because I want to chamfer the 3 top horizontal edges (front and both sides) aswell as the two front vertical edges I think I also have to create a union with the top face. So when I split the body like you suggested it also splits through the top. Any way to prevent this?

Not sure I correctly read your geometry but here is my solution
