Any feature ideas?

Hi, this is not in our near plans and at the moment there is no ETA for when it will be available.
I will pass on your feedback to our product team.

This may have been mentioned already, but as a newbie, the one thing that would have helped would have been the option to just have the pencil be a select tool rather than defaulting to draw a line. I continually find myself going to tap on a sketch object to make a change only to find I have drawn a line, possibly because I missed the control point or object outline. This is partially due to the fact that I have arthritis in my hands which can make it difficult to get precision with the pencil so perhaps this isn’t a problem other people have.
Thanks
Chris

I was really surprised by the possibilities and the fast results achievable and would welcome a couple of improvements:

  1. possibilities of name changes for Sketches,Volumens and planes.

  2. a visual mark of the active plane, when you are sketching

  3. the planes should have always the same size to make it easier to change

  4. as deoAM has already said the possibility to export individual Planes to DWG (right now I saw only the xy plane in my export)

Thanks

Hi,

I’ve already mentioned elsewhere but thought I’d add to this list for feature ideas.

The ability to produce an 2D sketch directly from a section (including boundary lines between objects. ie not just an outline of the yellow hatched section plane).

Thanks

Thanks for the feedback.
These are already on our roadmap and there is no ETA for when they will be released.
Developing new features takes time and we are not slowing down. We will keep improving the app as swiftly as possible.

Here is an image with my requested changes/additions for Shapr3D:

If you can’t read my curly handwriting:

Trimming Tools:

Hi thanks for the feedback. I will pass them on to our product team.

To raname a folder - drag the pane to the left using the Pencil and then tap on the pencil icon.

We had the finger tap undo/redo gesture until after the release of the iOS 13. We updated the gesture to the iOS 13 default three-finger left/right swipe to undo/redo.

Not sure if this has been requested before but I use shapr predominantly for designing for 3d printing so iterating designs is a common occurrence. When exporting to stl, I would like some kind of version numbering added to the model name…maybe a toggle after you select export to stl then sub toggles to increment the main version number (1.x to. 2.x) and minor versions (x.1 to x.2)… each time you export, the version number changes…

I would really love if you could display both the tools and transform menus at the same time. It’s a royal pain to close one and open the pother constantly. Judy have both open, or make it an option.
Please

Hi, we already worked on this and it’s currently been tested to ensure optima user experience

Hi,

The section tool could be a very powerful tool which I use a lot to look inside complex models during the design process and to produce 2D drawings.

Some useful developments would be,

  1. I set up a number of construction planes to use as section ‘views’. This would work really well in combination with the ability to save views for quick reference,
  2. Currently, having created a construction plane to generate a section, I have to then double tap the plane to bring it ‘flat’ to the screen, then click the section button, and then hide the construction plane (as it ‘fades’ the view), and then, sometimes, rotate away from flat to screen to get back to the 3D view I started with. Would be nice if the model orientation didn’t automatically have to rotate flat to the screen and if the construction plane could automatically ‘hide’,
  3. A dynamic section plane would be amazing, to be able to select a section view and then move the section plane back and forth. This would be a very helpful tool for visualising the relationship of different parts of a model in section. Also to be coupled with save view, it would help with selecting a good position for the section,
  4. A more detailed section presentation (in 3D and 2D) where the outlines of interfaces between objects, and their different colours, are shown rather than one continuous section face. I currently achieve this by duplicating the model and doing a subtract with a ‘cube’. A bit of a tedious process, especially for regular quick references. I can see that presenting the different object colours in section wouldn’t necessarily work were different faces have different colours.
  5. The ability to select the section face colour. I have never been a fan of the current hatched yellow/orange. A more conventional black/dark grey would be better - or whatever preference,
  6. From a section view in 3D, to be able to double click the section face to bring it flat to screen.

Some thoughts for the future.

Thanks
Simon

I can see from the top of this thread, 4 years ago one of the very first suggestions was Align/Distribution tool. The CEO commented “Yes, Yes Yes”. It’s 2020. Is this function ever coming? I just became a paying customer, but I am going to re-think the expectations for improvements that I initially had if a simple function was agreed/suggested/promised 4 years ago and still missing?

Also a feature I am not sure has been proposed is live measurements during extrusion. If you can’t allow auto-align functions, at least make it possible for manual alignment. Example:
I can select 2 edges/faces and see the distance between them, I can then extrude one item at that edge to be closer, but as I start to do that, the measurements are gone. If they were to stay on the screen and update as I drag, I could align on my own by setting reference distances and copying them.

Thanks for your consideration.

“Align” means many different things, and we made a lot of progress since then with all sort of tools that allow you to align your bodies. But there is an even more sophisticated alignment tool is coming very soon, it’s in the prototype phase, meaning that it will make it to production in a few releases. Hopefully earlier than mid August.

That would be awesome. Yes the alignment type tools I was looking for would include taking 2 bodies and snapping them together based on a chosen variable, like the mid-point/center of one. In the meantime I am using the grid in 2d mode during initial setup, I’m glad to hear it is in the works…

And thank you for your time replying cheers!

To do list.
Import export text file for to do list
Check list would work as well
Description for folders
*
Name: - folder1
Description: This is a folder
*
:slightly_smiling_face:
An autoMated exit design to home page on exit
Copy files with no cross selection
-on duplication, multiple objects will select or not select
If they could duplicate under a unique folder with copy Id(x)

Hi,

I have several feature suggestions for Shapr3D. Some of these features I’ve seen in other programs and some of them I thought of myself. Many of these ideas are from an artist’s perspective because I love drawing just as much as I enjoy 3D modeling and I’d be happy to add more artistic elements to my 3D models in Shapr3D.

  1. I want to be able to sketch out an idea in the app before committing to any modeling. uMake has a feature like this where you can create a sketch through the use of sketch planes. It’s very interesting because it allows users to plan out an idea very fast and it’s great for those of us who find drawing with the Apple Pencil an intuitive way to plan out ideas. uMake allows the sketching of ideas but that’s only as far as it goes. I was thinking that Shapr3D can adopt this idea but take it even further. I would love it if there was a quick & easy way to create 3D forms out of our sketches.

  2. If you include sketching tools, also include tools for us to clean up & modify our sketches: such as an eraser, line smoothing tools, selection tools, a transform tool & a liquify tool.

  3. Add the ability to draw lines with the Apple Pencil on the 3D objects, both freehand & with line/curve tools. These lines would be used to modify the objects by cutting out those sections from the total object or making them protrude from the object. They could be cut off completely or carved out partially. The corners where the marked section was cut out (or where it protrudes) could be rounded or sharp, or a combination of both.

  4. Add freehand lasso & polygonal lasso tools.

  5. Add the ability to use textures, patterns, stencils, symmetry tools & lines/shapes drawn with the Apple Pencil in order to create engraved & embossed designs to decorate objects.

  6. Include the ability to create open surfaces. For example, in uMake users can create two splines, select them, and then just tap on an icon to have the surface created.

  7. Allow the quick selection of multiple objects with a lasso tool.

  8. Bring in 3D scans or other 3D objects into the app and model around them. An example where this could be useful is if using a 3D scan of someone’s foot in order to model a custom shoe for them.

  9. Make it possible to merge parts from imported 3D models with 3D objects created in Shapr3D. For example, let’s say you create a vase in Shapr3D and you want to design this vase by having a lion’s face partially popping out on one side of the vase. You cannot sculpt organic 3D models in Shapr3D, and even if you could, you probably wouldn’t because you might not be that good at sculpting. So, you decide to import a lion sculpture instead. You import the lion but you don’t want to use the whole lion. You only want to use part of the face to partially pop out from the vase. You might want to keep the lion’s face in full detail or you might want to simplify it. You might want to make sure that the lion’s face that’s popping out is carved out on the inside & doesn’t add too much thickness, or else the vase might be too heavy on one side & tip over.

  10. This might be difficult to do but it would be useful if there was some way to test an object’s functionality before printing it. For example, going back to the example of the vase with the lion’s face, it matters how weight is distributed in an object. If one side is too heavy, the object could tip over unless more weight is added to the other side or some kind of bracing is created on the heavier side to prevent it from tipping over. Another example where this might be useful is to see how parts of an object move, such as how a wheel rotates. 3D printing an object takes time & money so it would help if there were a few ways to test out an object’s functionality before printing it. I understand that not everything can be tested digitally, but it would be helpful to test out some aspects before printing.

  11. Allow the option to preview objects under different lighting in order to get an idea of how shadows on the object as well as cast shadows on the ground (or on a wall) will look like. This isn’t a big deal but I mention this feature because it can give us an idea of how an object might look like in real life settings. It might help when trying to design stylish objects that look good in real environments.

These were my ideas for features that I think would be useful. I have a huge imagination so maybe some of them might be difficult to implement but I hope you find at least a few of these ideas helpful.

Thank you

Hi Leonardo, please can your further explain how this helps your design workflow to help us better understand?

Yeah, uh… lemme get two fries and a Big Mac. :slightly_smiling_face:

It would most certainly help my efficiency in not having to join multiple points in to a single coordinate. Some times the connection of points are connected and deforms my sketches. I could go on for days but… that one occurs most often…
