Copy of original object was substructed before can not be substruct other way.

The top of the cube is shown in a blueish color which means there is a sketch there. If you tried to select the cube by its top face, it may happen that the sketch was selected which cannot be used for booleans.
Can you please give selecting the cube a try by tapping on one of the sides?
