Issue with Saving a Single Body to a Separate Project

Dear Shapr3D Support Team,

I’m experiencing difficulties when trying to save a single body from my current project into a separate file. Here’s what I’ve tried so far without success:

  1. Copy/Paste Method:

    • Selected the body → Copied (⌘+C) → Opened a new project → Tried pasting (⌘+V).
    • Result: The body does not paste or appears corrupted.
  2. Export/Import Workaround:

    • Exported the body as STEP/STL → Created a new project → Imported the file.
    • Result: The imported geometry is incorrect or missing features.
  3. Save As:

    • Deleted all other bodies → Used File → Save As to create a new file.
    • Result: The new file still contains hidden references to deleted objects.

Additional Details:

  • Device: [e.g., iPad Pro 2021 / macOS Ventura]
  • Shapr3D Version: [e.g., v5.xxx]
  • Model Complexity: [e.g., The body is part of an assembly with X Boolean operations]
  • Error Messages: [If any, e.g., “Failed to export geometry”]

Could you please advise:

  1. Is there a hidden workflow to isolate a body into a new project while preserving its features?
  2. Are there known bugs related to this in my version?
  3. Would a diagnostic file (or screen recording) help investigate further?

Thank you for your time! I appreciate your guidance.

Use X_T or Shapr3D format for your exports. Those both will import without translation.

STEP is a 3D CAD format STL is a MESH format. STEP will have editable features but STL will not. STEP like X_T is an editable format within Shapr3d. Preserving features? Do you also need the sketches as well? You can duplicate your Shapr3d file and delete everything you don’t need in the duplicate and export it as Shapr3d, import will bring in Sketch and History.
